For physiotherapy by highly qualified and caring physios in Plymouth

Why is Plym Pilates so far removed from your average Pilates class?…

  • Classes have been created by our Physios based on normal, efficient movement patterns for clinical need rather than exercises developed by Josef Pilates over a 100yrs ago
  • Small class size, usually around eight participants
  • Led by an experienced Physiotherapist
  • Purpose-built clinic gym area
  • A range of classes available to suit individual ability and pre-existing conditions/needs
  • They are ability led, each class member having been assessed and issued a treatment programme
  • Sessions are unique, and exercises are adjusted directly to each individual needs

In a nutshell, Plym Pilates is an individualised, pilates-based class that has evolved to address an attendees movement needs to promote healthy, safe, efficient and pain-free movement.

Exercises have been developed based on normal movement biomechanics to retrain muscles and joints to move more efficiently, something that may have been lost through the presence of pain, injury or lifestyle demands.

Plym Pilates is ideally suited to people who perhaps struggle to participate in general exercise for one reason or another.

Our Plym Pilates classes

Our Pilates classes are small, usually around eight participants and are tailored to individual needs and are ability led. We therefore fully assess everyone coming into the classes so we can place them in the right class for their movement deficits and needs. They run as a ‘course’ made up of a one hour session once a week for 8 weeks. Each week is structured to address aspects of movement to gain the the foundations of efficient movement to then progress onto one of the more advanced classes.

There is a range of classes from beginners to advanced, slower paced up to the power pilates class. This is the newest class which has evolved from the advanced class to provide an environment for those who already perform at a level of activity but have the odd niggle at higher levels or been told they need to develop their ‘core’.

Having avoided all forms of exercise class for many years, I’ve finally been converted and have found one that I like and which works for me!

Nic manages to make pilates classes enjoyable and fun with her friendly approach and varied, well structured sessions, tailored to suit each individual.

I now have far more flexibility and definition in muscles I never knew I had and, importantly for me, have finally learned how to relax! Highly recommended.
